Houston Communities to Make Their Mark, One Step at a Time in the Walk MS: Houston Series, Presented By KBR

Walk MS: Houston, presented by KBR, will be held Oct. 26 and Nov. 10 and 11 in The Woodlands, Sugar Land, Houston and Kemah

HOUSTON, TX – More than 4,000 Houston-area residents will take steps towards a world free of multiple sclerosis in the Walk MS: Houston Series, presented by KBR, supporting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The series includes four walks on October 26, November 10 and November 16, in Houston and its surrounding communities, The Woodlands, Sugar Land, and Kemah, and aims to generate an estimated $400,000 to support cutting-edge research, programs and services to help thousands of Texans impacted by MS and raise awareness of multiple sclerosis.

Each walk site will open at 8 a.m. and the walks will begin at 9 a.m. with entertainment and refreshments before and after. Registration is currently open for individuals and teams online at WalkMStexas.org. To create a team, walkers can gather their friends, family and co-workers to fundraise and participate together. There is no cost to register and no minimum pledge commitment; however, the average walker raises $225

“Walk MS is a central part of the Society’s fundraising and awareness efforts each year because it draws an array of people all working with the common goal of bringing attention to multiple sclerosis ,” said Kelli Dreiling, Vice President for Development in Houston. “People of all ages and physical conditions can come out and support the cause of helping thousands of Texans living with MS. The commitment and participation from these communities plays an important role in bringing hope to the lives of those impacted by MS.”

The Society will host Walk MS: The Woodlands, on Saturday, Oct. 26. The walk, which features both one mile and 5K routes, will be kicked off at Rob Fleming Park. A dog-friendly event, participants will enjoy complimentary food from Lupe Tortilla and entertainment before and after the event. In the spirit of Halloween, there will be festive activities including a kid’s costume contest at the event.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, Walk MS: Sugar Land will be held at Sugar Land Memorial Park. The event offers one mile and 5K route options with food from Lupe Tortilla, refreshments, entertainment, and special Halloween activities before and after the walk. Participants are welcome to bring their four-legged friends to accompany them on the walk.

Walk MS: Houston will be held Sunday, Nov. 10 at The University of Houston Main Campus Recreation & Wellness Center, which is a new location within the University of Houston campus this year. Walkers will have the option of walking the one mile or 5K routes through campus. Food will be provided by Lupe Tortilla and entertainment by Clayton Gardner will be enjoyed at the event for participants.

Walk MS will conclude with Walk MS: Kemah on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Kemah Boardwalk. The Boardwalk, Kemah’s biggest tourist attraction, will serve as the event venue for the family-friendly event. Walkers will enjoy one mile or 5K routes as well as entertainment and refreshments. To add to the fun-filled morning, registered walkers will receive a discounted pass for rides at the Kemah Boardwalk on event day.
