THE WOODLANDS, TX – Over three days, employees of Waste Connections, Inc. assembled 622 bikes to be distributed to children by non-profits throughout the county this holiday season.  Houston employees donated more than $15,000 which was matched by the company, and with additional vendor donations, was used to purchase the bikes.  “Waste Connections has a passion for the children in its communities.  It is a great feeling to be a part of a company where employees are genuinely excited to give their time, effort and money to make a special holiday for a young child.  It is an added blessing to be invited each year to the Interfaith of The Woodlands Holiday Toy Distribution, to help distribute clothing and toys and to watch families select a bike for their child.

That’s what it’s all about.”said Keith Gordon, Director of Information Systems for Waste Connections and Leader of the Bike Build team.In addition to Interfaith of The Woodlands, nine other non-profits also received bikes including:  Montgomery County Youth Services, CASA, Family Promise, the YMCA, Tri-County Community Center, Toys for Tots, the Tamina Community Center, Bethel Baptist Church, and Humble Area Assistance Ministries.  “The bike build is something the employees look forward to every year.  It is an investment they make with their money and their hearts,” said Darin Mittelstaedt, wife of Waste Connections, Inc. CEO, Ron Mittelstaedt.
