New Kayaking Experiences and Stand Up Paddle Boarding Come to The Woodlands Waterway this Spring

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Riva Row Boat House on The Woodlands Waterway is gearing up for another spring season when those on family and couples getaways can enjoy new kayak offerings and the debut of stand up paddle boarding classes.

Walking distance from several hotels, Waterway Square and Market Street, Riva Row Boat House now offers 90-minute, Sunday kayak excursions, kayak rentals with picnic lunches and Saturday stand up paddle boarding classes in addition to standard single and tandem kayak rentals.

New to Riva Row Boat House this spring is a Sunday Lake Woodlands Excursion, led by an instructor certified by the American Canoe Association, where single and tandem kayakers will explore nature while learning new kayaking techniques. The 90-minute excursions ($40 for a solo kayak and $55 for a tandem) are scheduled for Sunday, April 12, April 26, May 3 and May 17 starting at 10 a.m.

Also new for spring is a kayak-and-picnic pack ($60), a two-hour tandem kayak rental on Lake Woodlands complete with picnic lunch on the lake.

Riva Row Boat House also will debut introductory classes in stand up paddle boarding where individuals will learn the proper stance for balance and control as well as paddling and turning techniques that will have participants standing on the water in no time. Classes are offered Saturday, April 11 and 25, May 9 and 23, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.

An introduction to kayaking class ($40 per person) is available April 9 and May 7 from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Private and group kayak lessons also are available.

Riva Row Boat House, a popular destination for those vacationing in The Woodlands, will continue to rent single kayaks ($15 for first hour) and tandem kayaks ($20 for the first hour). Both are $5 for each additional hour. Springtime rentals are available daily from 9 am – sunset, except Tuesday and Wednesday, thru May 17, 2015. The Boat House is open daily from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., except Wednesday, from May 18 – August 23, 2015.
Kayaks are rented on a first-come, first-serve basis or by reservation by calling 281-210-3965. All classes require reservations made 24 hours in advance. Those looking for a less strenuous way to enjoy The Woodlands Waterway can board a Waterway Cruiser on the weekends or sit back and enjoy the synchronized Fountains at Waterway Square, a 120-foot long, 10-foot high water wall with 22 choreographed jets of water shooting 75 feet into the sky. An interactive children’s pop fountain with 34 color-lit spouting jets provides extra family fun.
