Three Time Champion – Bhernard Langer

THE WOODLANDS, TX – An all-star cast of golf’s greatest players, led by three-time champion, Bernhard Langer, are set to tee it up as the 12th edition of the Insperity Invitational, presented by UnitedHealthcare, gets underway April 27 – May 3

Langer, who has a chance to make history this week, has a perfect record when defending his title at the Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare. He first won here in 2007 and successfully defended his title in 2008. With another victory, Langer could also make a move in the Champions Tour history book. The German could join Hale Irwin and Jack Nicklaus as the only players to win the same event more than three times. Irwin also owns the record for most victories in a single event, having won six times at the Kaanapali Classic.

Joining Langer will be all of the past champions since 2005 for Houston’s Champions Tour event—Mark McNulty(2005), Jay Haas (2006), John Cook (2009), Fred Couples (2010), Brad Faxon (2011), Fred Funk (2012) and EstebanToledo (2013).

In addition, nine World Golf Hall-of-Fame members are currently in the field: Irwin, Couples, Langer, Nick Price, Tom Kite, Curtis Strange, Colin Montgomerie, Ben Crenshaw and Sandy Lyle.

There are eight categories of eligibility in the invitational format, making this event unique on the Champions Tour schedule. This marks the second year the tournament has used this innovative qualifying method.

“Our format was well received by players and fans last year because it assures that the best players age 50 and over from around the world have the opportunity to be in the Houston area for one week,” said Insperity Invitational Executive Director Bryan Naugle. “Furthermore, the players just love playing the golf course, enjoy the great support from our fans and the hospitality of the citizens in The Woodlands area.”

The list of stellar names continues from the All-Time money list category who have committed to being in The Woodlands, TX next week: Champions Tour rookie Jesper Parnevik will join Mark Calcavecchia, Loren Roberts, Corey Pavin, Bob Tway, Hal Sutton, Lee Janzen and Steve Elkington.

Also qualifying for the Insperity Invitational by virtue of winning a Champions Tour major in the last five years are Olin Browne, Roger Chapman, Russ Cochran, Joe Daley, David Frost, Kenny Perry and Mark Wiebe.

Fans will also have the opportunity to catch one of the year’s best events in golf as a collection of the games greatest legends return for the Greats of Golf competition that will take place on Saturday afternoon at The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course. Fans will have the rare opportunity to see Arnold Palmer, who will be on hand to watch Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Lee Trevino tee it up in an exceptional exhibition on tournament week at The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course. The Big Four will be joined by Raymond Floyd, Don January, David Graham, Tony Jacklin, Dave Stockton and a first-time appearance by Tom Weiskopf who will compete in the “Greats of Golf” competition. Palmer will not compete. However, he will be in attendance and serve as an honorary chairman and observer for the event.

This legendary and world class group of the game’s greatest players will tee off following the last tee time of the official competition. These nine players will be grouped in threesomes and will play an 18-hole scramble format.

“Saturday has become the highlight of the week for many of our fans, who are also able to see current stars on the Champions Tour compete in the same day,” said Insperity Invitational Executive Director, Bryan Naugle. “It is also one of the highlights of the year for the players involved because they get to spend a couple of days together in a very relaxed atmosphere. We are so glad we are able to share this memorable gathering again with our fans and corporate partners.”

The Insperity Invitational offers free grounds only admission tickets courtesy of Insperity, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Woodforest National Bank and HP. The grounds ticket also includes free parking and shuttle service. General public parking has moved to a NEW location this year. Public parking will be at Woodforest Bank Stadium located at 19115 David Memorial Dr, Shenandoah, TX 77385
