While its true that hundreds – if not thousands – of local residents in The Woodlands and surrounding areas are recovering from the devastating floods earlier this month, one organization is maintaining its steadfast course to bring an evening of clear skies and hope for survivors of all types.

Couture for the Cause of Montgomery County is a continuation of a decades-long tradition of unwavering support for the American Cancer Society in our community. The inaugural Couture for the Cause gala will be an extravagant at the exclusive Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands on May 7, from 7 to 11 p.m.

In light of the recent destruction caused by the storms and flooding, Kristi Leggett, one of the co-chairs for Couture for the Cause, states that this fundraising event featuring an evening of dinner, entertainment and fashion is even more even more profound.

“As much as we would have loved, in the beginning, to incorporate gondolas to complete the Italian-themed evening, we never anticipated that our community would be working to overcome the storms we have witnessed in recent weeks,” said Leggett. “Our original description of this event as ‘a night of hope, a celebration of survival’ was originally meant for cancer survivors,” she said. “But this concept now finds itself applying to the indomitable human will for those who have survived other catastrophes as well as cancer.”

The theme of the event, Moonlight in Milan, will bring the look and feel of Milans legendary fashion week, along with cocktails, fine cuisine, and a chic and lively runway show that pays tribute to those who have been affected by cancer.

“All of our runway models are cancer survivors; and you will be blown away by the amazing group that we’ve gathered,” said Leggett. “Our models include a former NFL player for the Indianapolis Colts, two crowned pageant winners as well as local Montgomery County natives, plus many others. We are honored that entrepreneur and philanthropist, Theresa Roemer will be there too sharing her cancer story and how preventative measures can save your life.”

This event is a unique opportunity for all area residents to show their support for a disease that – much like the storms – can hit anyone at any time.

Individual tickets for the event are still available for $125. Proceeds from this fundraising gala – which also includes raffles and a bid board auction – will help the American Cancer Society to fund patient programs and innovative research in order to open up new avenues for treatment that can save lives.
