Poison, Cheap Trick and Pop Evil deliver three generations of Rock & Roll to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands.

My initial thought on this line up was, “How do these 3 bands even go together? Who picked this line up?” I was puzzled!

Here we have a headliner 80’s hair band, 70’s classic rock band, and a 2000 hard rock/alternative metal band. How will they line up together? I just decided to roll with the line up and see where it went. I was interested to see the crowds reaction to such a  diverse line up of bands.

Pop Evil hit the stage playing some semi hard rock. It wasn’t too outrageously different that it would shock a crowd looking to see Cheap Trick, however the further they got into the set the harder the rock they played.

This is their 10th anniversary out on tour together.

They reminded the crowd that rock is not dead as we seem to live in a generation that believes that is the case. He advised everyone to go home and remind your friends and family it is far from dead.

The crowd was into it! They stood up, they engaged, and rocked out to the music!

It was the last song Pop Evil began to play and singer Leigh Kakaty jumped off the stage and makes his way through the entire crowd. I thought to myself, “This is a way to make fans.” He took selfie after selfie and even hung out with the lawn after the song was over! Hats off to him. That is something you just don’t see as often at large concerts.

Ahhhhh, then you have Cheap Trick…. You may have heard of them but if you haven’t you might want to slap your parents for not exposing you!

They started out in 1974, the year I was born. Wait, how old am I? You do the math on that one! Let me help out a bit, 44 years of their 65 years on earth the lead singer has been in this one band Cheap Trick. I mean that is my whole entire life on this earth. That is impressive and out right consistent. When you look at the band members and their performance, they don’t perform as if they’re out of energy, they get up there and kick ass! I felt as if I was watching them perform in their prime in the 80’s. Age and music is not a factor when it comes to Cheap Trick. When you do something you love, it shows on stage. Kudos!

During intermission, Houston’s finest weather kicked in.

Out of no where wind gusts and lightning circled the pavilion. The warning signs went up on the big screens while we all waited for Poison to hit the stage.

BAM! Not long after Poison hit the stage!

The crowd roared in excitement. They played a couple of hits and then someone walked on the stage. The crowd seemed to know what was coming. They told Brett Michaels, Poisons front man, he needed to shut it down due to weather. Brett said we are playing one more! That one more turned into much more and not stopping. Before the start of their power ballad “Something to Believe In” they invited local military to the stage. The crowd lit up and went crazy.

Brett asked everyone to turn their lights on for all the ones we have lost as they sacrifice their life for our freedom. The video on the stage reflected heartbreaking moments that brought tears to my eyes from our military and the loss it sees on a regular basis. What a touching moment.

They finished playing out the rest of the set which kept everyone on their feet throughout the show. What a great night full of Rock & Roll. Thank you to the musicians out there that continue to make music! Our souls appreciate you Poison, Cheap Trick and Pop Evil!
